I am a Family Physician in private practice with another physician in North Carolina, USA. In the world of computers I am a newbie Linux guy starting with Fedora/Apache in 2014 when I wanted to write and host my own web site for our Boy Scout Troop. I read about HTML/CSS and web hosting and wrote and continue to maintain troop93cgl.com on a server at my office. Facing the expense of a commercial EMR, in August of 2015 I decided to look for alternatives that I could maintain with a personal goal of writing my notes via touch screen and dictation, the ability to avoid the superfluous jibber jabber of many EMR reports and maybe, just maybe, integrate an accounting module for a smooth transition between billing and business accounting; i.e. paying the bills. I found OpenEMR and after looking at other open source EMR's decided OpenEMR is solid software supported by a vibrant community and thus the best platform for our office and my goals. It is good to have goals. Oh, and beer. It is good to have beer. And Family. Let's not forget family. Also a garage with lot's of tools... and a refrigerator. And my computers, and books, and music, usw. van
