Overview

This page will be used to track special constants (especially ones containing comments) and provide a further description of constants that translators have found confusing. Please feel free to place confusing constants here.

Constants with comments

Email Text, Usable Tag: ***NAME*** , i.e. Dear ***NAME***{{Do Not translate the ***NAME*** elements of this constant.}}
  • The ***NAME*** token in this constant should not be translated.
to{{range}} or To{{range}}
  • Use when describing range (ie. June to July)
to{{salutation}} or To{{salutation}}
  • Use when addressing someone (ie. To Brady)

Constants that might need extra attention or explanation

a.c.
  • ante cibos = before meals (coena is the evening meal or dinner)
A related IPPF code is required!
  • a code with relevance for International Planned Parenthood is required! (Google for relevant code and myAdminPHP and use CSV/SQL or other script to include them in OEMR)
A/F Level Right:
AB
  • Abbreviation for Address Book in the interface/main/main_navigation.php script (note this script is only used in the traditional layout which is not really used anymore)
ABN1
After migration from the old password mechanisms where passwords are stored in the users table without salt is complete, this flag should be set to false so that only authentication by the new method is possible
  • This is in software developer talk (ie. meant for developers and users that are configuring OpenEMR). There has been a question on the "users table without salt" part. Figured best to give a little backgrround to help the translators. A user's password is stored in the database as a hash, which is derived by a function that converts a password to this. The salt thing is a way to make the hash more secure. So, when the hash is created a salt(which is a string) is combined with the password to make the hash. Here's a quick article on this: http://crackstation.net/hashing-security.htm
  • If still at a loss as to what I am talking about, then just remove the "where passwords are stored in the users table without salt is complete" from your translation :)

'to' issues (note this is currently being fixed with by using comments in the constants)
  • From this "date" to "that date" can be translated into Dutch as tot
  • But sending this message to Dr. S. O. Andsoo should be translated in Dutch with aan to use the word "tot" in this situation is very unusual.
