OpenEMR Version 5.0.2 Released

OpenEMR version 5.0.2 was recently released. A large community of more than 50 OpenEMR contributors produced a staggering amount of new features and security improvements for OpenEMR 5.0.2.

The community focused a very large effort on optimizing OpenEMR security. Improvements include multi-factor authentication support, robust encryption support, brute force login prevention, access control optimizations, lightweight directory access protocol (LDAP) improvements, session and cookie optimization and sweeping codebase refactoring in order to prevent modern cyber attacks. The OpenEMR 5.0.2 Docker was also overhauled to support best security practices.

Several of the key new features and improvements in OpenEMR 5.0.2 include REST API support, SNOMED Release Format 2 support, user interface improvements, insurance eligibility checking, online payment universal gateway support, embedded documentation, patient portal enhancements, patient flow board enhancements, patient searching additions, online drug lookup developments, online drug interactions lookup improvements, billing module upgrades, and prescription module improvements.
